Edwin Kahiwa Ahuna, 64, of Keaau died April 22 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, he worked at Jack’s Tours, Boldman’s Portraits, Rainbow Isle Refrigeration and Air Conditioning and was a foster parent. Celebration of life noon-8 p.m. Friday (July 14) at Onekahakaha Beach Park pavilion No. 4. Survived by companion, Debra Boldman of Keaau; sons, Jason (Jona) Ahuna of Kauai, Garrett Ahuna of Oahu and Kula Ahuna of Keaau; daughters, Kimberly Ahuna, Anuhea Ahuna and U‘ilani Ahuna of Keaau; brothers, Edward Ahuna Jr. of Kona and Weldon (Pam) Ahuna of Hilo; grandchildren, great-granddaughter, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Eric Iksoon Im, Ph.D., 69, of Hilo died July 3 in Daejeon, South Korea. He was a professor of economics at the University of Hawaii at Hilo who also taught at UH-Manoa, a founding member and interim director of the UHH China-U.S. Relations Master of Arts program, served as UHH Economics Department chair, published more than 60 papers in academic journals and loved the ocean, his work and family, including his son, Albert, and daughter-in-law, Andrea. Graveside service 3 p.m. Monday (July 10) at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery in Kaneohe, Oahu.

Junko “June” Shiigi, 84, of Hilo died July 1 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, she was retired from the former Hilo Ben Franklin store. Services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by husband, Richard Shiigi of Hilo; son, Craig (Adele) Shiigi of Hilo; brother, Motomu (Pauline) Sakai of Hilo; sister, Katsue Nishimura of Hilo; sister-in-law, Nellie Sakai of Honolulu; three grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Charles Allan Skinner, 91, of Waimea died April 21 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Canada, he was an airplane mechanic for Hawaiian Airlines, aerial photographer, Canadian Air Force World War II veteran, U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran and American Legion member. Edward Akinobu Uemura, 78, of Mililani, Oahu, died June 20. Born in Hilo and raised in Kona, he was a retired warehouseman for the former Jorgensen Steel Co. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Sunday, July 16, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary in Honolulu. Service at 11 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by wife, Jean T. (Kanbe) Uemura of Mililani; son, Sean (Jaimee Ann) Uemura of Mililani; brother, Ted (Jane) Uemura of Concord, Calif.; sisters, Madeline Tanaka of Dededo, Guam, and Ellen Tanioka of Waikele, Oahu; grandson; nephews and nieces.
